How to Remove Extension Beads

Beaded Weft Hair Extensions

Hair extension beads, commonly used for applying micro bead or I-tip extensions, are a popular and semi-permanent method to add length and volume to natural hair. Over time, whether due to natural hair growth, maintenance schedules, or personal preference, the extensions need to be removed. Proper removal is essential to avoid damaging the natural hair. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to remove extension beads safely and effectively.

1. Gather the Necessary Tools

Before starting the removal process, it’s important to have the right tools on hand. The key tools you need include:

Tool Name Purpose
Bead Removal Pliers Used to open and loosen the beads for easy removal.
Rat-Tail Comb Helps in sectioning the hair for better access to the beads.
Spray Bottle with Water Useful for detangling sections of hair after bead removal.
Clarifying Shampoo Used to cleanse the hair after all extensions are removed.

If you are using SISHAIR extension beads, it’s recommended to use SISHAIR’s branded removal tools for best results. These tools are precision-designed to minimize stress on the hair.

2. Section the Hair

Start by sectioning your hair into manageable parts using the rat-tail comb. If you are removing the extensions yourself, use hair clips to hold sections of the hair in place. Work one row at a time to ensure you don’t miss any beads.

3. Locate the Beads

Feel along the sectioned area of your hair to locate the beads. Beads are typically small and sit near the root where the extensions are attached. If the beads are grown out due to hair growth, they may be further from the scalp.

4. Open the Beads

Using bead removal pliers, gently clamp the bead in the opposite direction of how it was initially closed. This action opens the bead and loosens its grip on the natural hair and the extension strand.

Step Action Result
1 Position pliers on bead Grips the bead securely.
2 Squeeze gently Opens the bead without breaking it.
3 Release pliers The bead loosens from the hair strand.

Take care not to apply excessive force, as this could damage the bead or pull on your natural hair, causing unnecessary breakage.

5. Slide Out the Extension

Once the bead is opened, use your fingers to gently slide the extension strand out of the bead. If the extension doesn’t slide out easily, double-check to ensure the bead is fully open. Never tug or yank on the extension, as this can damage your natural hair.

6. Detangle and Repeat

After removing each bead, use a spray bottle with water to lightly mist the section of hair. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently detangle the hair before moving to the next bead. Repeat this process until all beads and extensions are removed.

7. Wash and Condition Your Hair

Once all the beads and extensions are removed, cleanse your hair thoroughly using a clarifying shampoo to remove any residue or buildup from the beads. Follow with a nourishing conditioner to restore moisture and maintain the health of your natural hair.

8. Inspection and Maintenance

After washing and drying your hair, inspect it for any signs of damage such as breakage, thinning, or irritation around the scalp. This is a good time to apply a leave-in treatment or hair mask to fortify your hair before reinstalling extensions or continuing with your natural hair care routine.

Conclusion

Removing extension beads doesn’t have to be a daunting process. By using the right tools and following the correct steps, you can safely remove your extensions without causing damage to your natural hair. Whether you’re working with SISHAIR beads or similar products, patience and careful handling are key to maintaining the health and integrity of your hair. Proper removal ensures that you can reuse your extensions if desired and keeps your natural hair looking and feeling its best.
