Lace front wigs have been a well-kept secret for a long time in Hollywood. More and more women in America begin using lace front wigs nowadays.
You should practice and use the right adhesive when positioning a lace front wig. And, fortunately, you can find many adhesives to apply lace wigs. Adhesives can be categorized into two main categories: Tape adhesives and Glue adhesives.
Tape adhesives incorporate a double-sided tape that is sticky on both sides. One sticky side is attached to your skin, and the other sticky part is attached on the lace.
Apply glue adhesives. Allow them to sit until they are tacky. You have to set the contact glue before connecting the lace wig to the scalp.
Tape or Glue adhesives?
What adhesives are best when applying lace front wigs? Each type has its pros and cons. Each type has its specific uses. In fact, unlike regular adhesives, adhesives used for lace wigs are contact style adhesives. They contain ingredients that need to work properly in contact with the human skin.
Both water- based and solvent-based are soluble types of adhesives. The former is less invasive to the skin and produces no allergic reaction. The latter contains compounds more aggressive to the skin but may last longer.
You can make a hand test to prevent any allergic reaction to the lace wig adhesives, especially glue.
- Apply a small drop of glue on the inner side of the forearm, near the hairline or even on your neck.
- Leave it to dry for about half of hour.
- Remove it.
It might be a sign that you are allergic to it, if within 24 hours the place covered by glue becomes red and itchy. In this case, you should not use glues. Now, you can use tape adhesives.
You will need more than just the glue recipient or the tape for applying a lace front wig correctly. In order to prevent the wear & tear and even products that will help you to remove effectively the adhesive from the lace front wig and the skin, you can buy a variety of adhesive kits that include the adhesive, scalp protectors, fray block, conditioners to treat the hair on the lace wig.
