Remy Hair, also spelled as remi hair, is a kind of hair extensions made by natural human hair. It comes from a single donor so it has intact cuticles and all the hair strands run in the same direction. The characteristics can be described as smooth, sleek and tangle-free with a long-lasting and natural look.
Most remy hair comes from Peru, Brazil and some Asian countries like India and Malaysia. Different remy hairs are also named after the place they were made. In these places, people don’t chemically process their hair very often so the collector can always find hairs in good quality. Virgin hair, which is a kind of remy hair, has never undergone any chemical treatments. Some of them are dyed, permed or straightened in demand of some special needs so they’re called non-virgin remy hair. However, for other hair extensions, in order to make sure that the hair could remain aligned in the same direction, manufacturers need to get an acid bath to make the hair extensions stay tangle-free. Then, they also have to apply some silicone to the cuticles to make it more smooth and easy to wear. But don’t worry about whether it will harm your scalp if you buy any non-remy hair since you can wash off the silicone easily with shampoo so you need to wash it carefully after buying and it won’t affect your hair quality at all. Remy hair will never use acid to wash and no silicone will be applied to remy hair, it is kept totally natural and tangle-free. Also, remy hair can also be worn for a long time if you take good care of it since it has never been treated with any chemical process.
Remy hairs are divided into single-drawn (which have different length) & double drawn (with all the same length strands). Double drawn hair always need more time of the manufacturer than single-drawn to sort the hairs and pile up the hairs of same length.
Remy hair can be made into the hair weft, yaki hair or wigs. Remy hair weft is always cut from a ponytail very close to scalp and could fit human scalp very well. It can be treated like people’s own hair and needs special care to maintain the good quality.
